Updating Site Meta at Google

SEO plugins are great, but unless you’re willing to pay a monthly fee, some important features will be missing, features like site indexing.

Here’s a step-by-step list of what you must do to update your sites description with Google.

  • on your site, update the site description using your SEO plugin and save changes
  • empty any caches both on the host and in the cloud (CDN)
  • manually submit changes and sitemap to google
Use Google Search Console > URL Inspection Tool > Request Indexing

NOTE
With Manual Submission: 1–7 days (if Google prioritizes your request).
Even if Google crawls your page quickly, it may not use your meta description if it deems on-page content more relevant to the search query.

This short video gives a specific example of the process outlined above. Your situation may differ but the basic steps will be roughly the same. Note: You must be authorized to log in to the Google Search Console. If that is ‘beyond you’, a quick google search will get you sorted out.
